Dubai Internet City Concludes Successful Week at GITEX 2018

Dubai Internet City (DIC), the leading technology community in the region, concluded a successful week at GITEX Technology Week 2018, marking its 19th outing at the definitive industry event with a series of important meetings and announcements, including the signing of two international MOUs, welcoming its first partner Hewlett Packard Enterprises (HPE) to Innovation Hub and hosting the product unveiling of partner HTC as well as a fireside chat with Netflix Co-Founder Mitch Lowe. 
Commenting on the developments, Ammar Al Malik, Managing Director of Dubai Internet City (DIC) and Dubai Outsource City (DOC) said: “I am very pleased with our participation at this year’s GITEX Technology Week, which has enabled us to showcase some of the best ideas and concepts that are being developed within enabling ecosystem. As our community expands in light of new and exciting partnerships, the first phase of Innovation Hub stands ready to become home to many more great ideas, supporting the growth of Dubai as a thriving hub for international business and its journey to become the smartest city in the world.”
In support of DIC’s mission to accelerate the development of technology in the region and further Dubai’s position as a world class business destination, DIC signed a Memorandum of  Understanding  (MoU)  with  the  Russian  Export Center (REC) to  launch  the  first Russian  Center  for  Digital  Innovations  and  Information  and Communication Technologies outside of Russia. This center, which will encompass of a space of over 20,000 sq.  ft.  within DIC, is the  first  of  four global centers, and  the  first-ever commitment to investment promotion of this scale by Russia abroad.  
Similarly, as part of an agreement with The National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM), a non-profit trade association of the Indian IT Business Process Management (BPM) industry, DIC will further boost the SME ecosystem in the UAE by giving NASSCOM’s SME members the opportunity to develop their operations in the MENA region.
The resulting growth in partners settling in DIC will be met by the opening of Innovation Hub, which welcomed its first partner, Hewlett Packard Enterprises, earlier in the week. Located at the heart of DIC, the Innovation Hub creates a vibrant  community for business professionals  and  creative  enthusiasts, freelancers  and entrepreneurs and  local  and  global players  to  thrive  and innovate. 
Innovation, especially in content creation, was also the theme of the fireside chat hosted by DIC with Mitch Lowe,  Co-Founder  of Netflix  and CEO of MoviePass, who highlighted creative collaboration across ITC sectors as a key ingredient for success. 
DIC’s theme, Home to Great Ideas, leveraged the power of its partners’ innovations, taking all visitors on an immersive journey to experience the cutting-edge concepts that companies of all sizes have been developing, prototyping and bringing to market. One such development was showcased during the unveiling of HTC’s Vive Wireless Adapter, ushering in a new era of VR use.
Curtesy to this and other futuristic technologies, visitors were given the opportunity to immerse themselves in a number of exciting experiences: from playing basketball with a robot powered by Digirobotics to jumping off the top of the Burj Khalifa curtesy to HTC’s virtual reality experience all the way to blending reality with the cyberworld through the Microsoft Hololens, Flamingo Skies and Blinkstudios, DIC invited visitors to experience the future.
